Marching Band

We are all excited about the upcoming year and events for the Trojan Pride. It is time to prepare for next year and the 2019 marching band season. Read below so that you can stay up to date with information, rehearsals, payments, and deadlines.

General Dates for the summer and fall are available on the Website Calendar. Specific times and locations will be added to the High School drop down menu in late June and early July.

Uniform Fittings

Uniform Fitting for incoming Juniors and Seniors took place on the same day as Physical Registration - Saturday, May 18th. Uniform Fitting for Sophomores will be on Saturday, July 20th. Uniform Fitting for Freshman will be on Saturday, July 27th. Click HERE to see the Uniform Fitting Schedules.

It should be noted that ALL students will be measured for their show performance uniform on Saturday, May 18th at physical registration. Do not confuse uniform fittings with show performance uniform measurements. They are two separate things.

Summer Repair

Once all instruments and equipment have been unpacked - all school owned concert instruments will be sent to the music store for regular maintenance and repair. At this point, it is still anticipated to be in early June. Students that requested a concert instrument for the summer will be contacted by Palen Music when their instrument is ready. Anticipated time of completion is mid-June. It is strongly recommended that students not using school owned instruments send their own instruments to the shop for regular maintenance and repair in early June.

Marching Contest Show

This year the focus flips from CarMan in the garage to the working woman in the office.

THEME - Business As Usual.

SETTING - The football field will be transformed into a large office space. Near the front could include small offices and/or cubicles. The background could include window views of high rise buildings, skyscrapers, or wider downtown views. Band members will be in suits. Guard members are all secretaries with glasses, pulled back tight hair, etc.

LOGOS/DESIGNS - still in the works at this point. Jenks = J,inc.

MUSIC - being approached from two angles. Music that supports the theme/possible story line of the show and music that give the atmosphere of the office.

Music that supports the theme/possible story line

Respect - Aretha Franklin
She Used to Be Mine - Sara Bareille
Run The World (Girls) - Beyonce
Fight Song - Rachel Platten

Music that supports the office feel

Bands Of America Marching Championships

The Trojan Pride has a rich history of competing in BOA Marching Events. The Trojan Pride has been a consistent Regional and Super-Regional finalist since 2002, as well as a Grand National Finalist. We are pleased to announce that the band will return to the Super-Regional Marching Contest in St. Louis in mid-October.

Opt In/Opt Out Forms

The cost for the trip is estimated at $400.00. Students/Families were given opt in/opt out forms in class on Monday, May 6th. Payments begin at the end of June and continue through the end of August. All information, payment deadlines, and criteria are included on the form. Please read thoroughly and carefully. Parents and students should understand that if payments are not made on time, the trip WILL be cancelled. Any fees or penalties received from cancelling reservations will be applied to student trip accounts.

Forms are to be filled out and returned to Mr. Hillock by Thursday, May 16th. Questions about opt in/opt out forms? - Email Mr. Hillock. To download a copy of the Opt In/Opt Out Form - click HERE.

Chaperone Information

Parents wishing to serve as chaperones for overnight trips will be required to go through the application process with the Jenks Band Parents Organization. Information, applications, and deadlines will be available at the end of the school year/beginning of the summer.

Summer and Pre-Band Rehearsals

Color guard practices are two or three days a week throughout the summer. Information and practice schedule have been given to fall colorguard members.

Percussion Camp will start on July 15th.

Pre-Band begins the last week of July on the 22nd and continues until the beginning of school. Rehearsals are 8am-12pm and 5pm-9pm, Monday through Friday for the first two weeks, and then 5-9pm begining August 9th. A packet containing all detailed information will be given to students at registration. That information will be added to the website in June.

Music and Memory Tests

Music memory tests over full band warm-ups, the fight song, the star spangled banner, the alma mater, the chinese national anthem, as well as contest music will begin during pre-band rehearsals in late July. Specific days and times will be announced at the beginning of pre-band. Students need to make sure and have this material learned and memorized correctly for the first day of rehearsal. Music memory tests will continue throughout the semester on the show music used for contests and the parade music used near the holiday season.

All current music is now available for brass & woodwinds to download via a DropBox Folder - Percussion will not receive their music until percussion camp in July. Music includes the Full Band Warm Ups, Jenks Fight Song, Jenks Alma Mater, Star Spangled Banner, Chinese National Anthem, Show Music Part 1, and Show Music Part 2. Also included in this folder is a list of sections and part assignments. Students will need to look at this list before downloading their music. Keep in mind that part assignments may slightly change after tenor sax, bari sax, and 1st trumpet auditions - but for now use this list. Part distributions may be different for various songs. For example - some songs there are only two clarinet parts, but others have three. Make sure you check each song and download the correct part. Sometime the 2nd and 3rd parts are on the same music. When notes divide, 2nds play top notes and 3rds play the bottom notes. If there is only one set of notes, everyone plays those notes. Students listed as euphonium should download the baritone part. Students listed as marching baritone should download either the 2nd or 3rd trombone part (depending on how many parts are on each song). The show music does have alternate parts listed for some instruments. Do not use these parts.

There is no new information regarding auditions for tenor sax and bari sax. These may be done in the summer or when pre-band begins. Auditions for 1st trumpet part will most likely take place at the beginning of pre-band.

Post Marching Season

Once State Championships are finished, the Trojan Pride will be transitioning into concert, honor band, and solo & ensemble seasons.

Concert Band Auditions will take place in mid-October or the same week of NCDA Auditions. Auditions will be done via recording individual auditions both during school and after school. An audition schedule will be added in late September. We divide into three concert bands after results are posted and begin preparing for the Kiwanis Christmas Parade and Holiday Concerts.

Spring Trips

This year is a spring trip year for the concert bands. The traditional date for spring trips is usually the last weekend in April (included on website calendar). The general cost for the spring trip is usually around $600.00 - depending on the venue. Opt In/Opt Out Forms are usually distributed in early December with payments beginning in January and running through April.

The Wind Symphony has been invited to Washington DC for the President's Cup National Invitational Music Festival. Plans are currently in the beginning stages of the process. In 2015, this trip cost $1,600.00 per student.

For the Symphonic Band and Concert Bands, we are currently looking at festivals in several different cities across the nation. Final decisions for these trips are anticipated to be made and announced sometime in August.
