OMEA Honor Band

Honor Band Information

Contracts with OMEA were signed by Mr. Beiler and Mr. Hillock on Monday morning (12/3), and will be returned to students after school or the next morning in rehearsal. Contracts must be filled out, signed, and mailed in to OMEA by the deadline or students will be replaced. Checks should be made out to OMEA, not Jenks Band. 

For this honor band, the hotel is covered by band parent organization. Students/families are responsible for all remaining fees including registration, unlisted meals, and any items they may wish to buy. Requests to use existing trip funds must be requested by Friday, January 7th.

OMEA All-State Itinerary

This information is supplemental to the rehearsal schedule that you received in your folder. Make certain that you are familiar with all times and locations. The school pays for hotel – reservations have already been made. Students are responsible for everything else. Students in the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band wear marching band uniforms with maroon pants and polished shoes. Students in the orchestra wear concert blacks. Do not be late for a rehearsal or you will be sent home!


7:00 AM         All students to be here at this time. Instructions given. Load Van & Bus

We are taking a school bus and van to the Tulsa PAC. Everything needed for rehearsals will go in the bus. Luggage, uniforms or concert blacks, and all hotel items will go in the van. Students should check out marching band uniforms with cream pants at this time. Make sure your white shoes have been cleaned and polished.

7:30 AM         Depart for Downtown

8:00 AM         Arrive @ Tulsa PAC

We are staying at the Courtyard Marriott, 415 S Boston, Tulsa 74103, (918) 508-7400. Luggage will be kept in the van during the day. Arrangements will be made so students may get luggage after either the afternoon or evening rehearsal - it will depend on Mr. Hillock's schedule and when room keys are available.

8:30/9:00 AM         Rehearsals Begin

10:30 PM        Curfew and room check

Do not congregate out in the halls to chat, play hack, or anything else that might disturb patrons that are not associated with the OMEA Convention.


Breakfast is on your own. You are allowed to bring breakfast with you or eat breakfast in the hotel restaurant, convenience store, or vending machines. You are not allowed to charge a meal to your room. Be up and ready to go with plenty of time. Know where you are going for rehearsal and/or sectionals. Do not be late for a rehearsal, be early and warmed up.   

5:00 PM          Sound Check & Dinner

Normally, we will go out somewhere to eat that night. This year the Wind Symphony is performing in the PAC that night so all students will need to drop off your concert attire in the holding room, report to the PAC stage for sound check, and spend the rest of the evening with the WS. Here is the schedule:

4:30 Unload - large equipment loaded at stage, everything else placed in holding room. 
5:05-5:30 Sound Check
5:35 Stage vacated, everything placed behind stage or in holding room
5:45 Depart for dinner
6:15 Dinner at El Guapo. (Dinner provided by band parents)
7:45 Depart for Tulsa PAC, Change into Concert Attire
9:00 Performance
10:00 Load Equipment and Buses

12:00 AM       Curfew and room check.


You guessed it. Breakfast is still the same deal. Go to morning rehearsal as scheduled. 

11:00 AM       Check out of hotel.

Parents pick up students at this point. Lunch is on your own with your parents. Make sure you are back in time for your respective warm-ups and performances.

2:30 PM          All-OMEA Concerts Begin.  Tulsa Performing Arts Center

 There is an admission charge for the concert.


Turn in marching band uniforms before rehearsal begins.

Students should begin practicing final round audition material immediately. If you own the books, click HERE to see a copy of the audition material. If you do not own the books (highly recommended), then students should request a copy of the music ASAP. 

OMEA Final Round Audition Information

Each student is to pay $25.00 Hotel Fee. Check or Cash is acceptable. Cash should be exact change (Mr. Hillock cannot and will not make change) and in an envelope marked with your name. Checks should be made out to Jenks Band. The fee is due on or before Tuesday, November 20th. Students may want to include their NCDA hotel fee payment at the same time as OMEA final round auditions - even though the deadlines are two different dates. Students may use their trip account to pay for the hotel. Requests to do this must be sent to Jennifer Betancourt by Thursday, November 15th.

We will not be marching at the game. Below is the official itinerary for the weekend.

5:00 PM - Load Bus and Box Truck
5:15 PMDepart for Moore
7:15 PM - Dinner in Moore - several area fast food restaurants to choose from. Students need about $7-$10.00, Check into hotel, Get some good rest for auditions

7:30 AMWake Up. Continental Breakfast included at Hotel. Dress comfortably. 
8:45 AMDepart for Westmoore High School
9:15 AMDirectors Meeting. 
10:00 AM Auditions begin. Auditions will last all day and into the evening. Be ready for times of intense pressure paired with times of boredom. It is okay to bring stuff to do during downtime (cards, monopoly, homework, etc.) but keep in mind the reason that you are there. Students will need money for both lunch and dinner. A concession area is available on site for lunch. We usually try to take students away for dinner that evening. $20.00 should be sufficient for both meals. Final postings have been made around 9:00 PM the last couple of years. That would tentatively get us back home around 11:00 PM.
